At least eight people have died while 11 others were left with serious injuries after an accident involving three vehicles in Zambia's Copperbelt Province, the police said on Thursday.

The accident happened on Wednesday night along a main highway between the towns of Kapiri Mposhi and Ndola when the three vehicles collided.

Zambia police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the accident involved a minibus, a truck and another small vehicle which were headed in the same direction.

The truck, which was carrying cement, hit into the stationary minibus which was offloading passengers, before hitting into another vehicle.

Hamoonga said seven people died on the spot while another one died on the way to the hospital. Endit
