Two charged with trafficking cocaine in Kenya

A Briton and a Kenyan were charged in a Kenyan court on Thursday for trafficking 99.7 kilograms of cocaine worth about 6 million U.S. dollars that was seized in the coastal city of Mombasa early this week.

The Briton, Jack Wolf was charged alongside Francis Mwanthi before Kibera Senior Resident Magistrate Derrick Kuto after being interrogated by a special team of U.S. anti-narcotics authorities and their Kenyan counterparts in Nairobi.

Prosecutors said the two suspects and accomplices trafficked the cocaine concealed in containers, through the Kilindini port in Mombasa on July 29. They denied the charges.

According to port documents, the 18 containers were loaded on the vessel, MSC Posetano at Santos Port in Brazil on June 20.

Each container was loaded with 520 bags of sugar. The U.S. team was also involved in the arrest of two sons of slain drug baron Ibrahim Akasha and three foreigners during sting operation on their Nyali residence in Mombasa 2014. Endit
