Kerry to visit Turkey in late August: report

Xinhua, August 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will pay a visit to Turkey by the end of August, CNN Turk reported on Thursday.

Kerry's visit is expected to focus on the developments following the failed coup by the Gulenist Organization and the extradition of Fethullah Gulen, who was blamed for organizing the July 15 coup attempt.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday that a senior-level official from the U.S. would visit Turkey after Aug. 20.

Turkish authorities are expected to deliver the country's sensitivities on the issue of the failed coup attempt, Hurriyet Daily News reported.

Tensions emerged after Ankara expressed its discontent over the lack of support it received from the West in the wake of the failed coup.

Turkey sent a second request to the U.S. for arrest of Fethullah Gulen earlier Tuesday.

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag warned that the relationship between Washington and Ankara would be negatively affected if Gulen is not extradited.

Turkey had initially sent four dossiers to Washington on July 19 demanding Gulen's extradition. Endit
