Morocco enjoys 10-percent rise in tourist arrivals

Xinhua, August 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

The number of tourists who visited Morocco between 2010 and 2015 increased by 10 percent, local media reported on Wednesday.

The number of tourists who arrived in the North African Kingdom exceeded for the first time 10 million tourists in 2013, alyaoum24.com news site quoted the Moroccan Tourism minister Lahcen Haddad as saying.

This period was marked by an increase of 31 percent of hotel capacity (241,000 beds) and the creation of 60,000 additional jobs in the tourism sector, the minister said.

As for 2015, tourist flow and booking declined, including French tourists, in comparison with the same period one year earlier, he noted.

Traditional source markets, such as France and Spain, recorded a respective drop of 15 percent and 8 percent while the German and British markets have increased significantly respectively by 17 percent and 7 percent, the minister pointed out.

The decline is due to terror attacks in France, Tunisia and Turkey, he said. Endit
