Lithiania's largest 1,000 companies created 5,000 jobs in 2015: research

Lithuania's largest 1,000 employers created more than 5,000 new jobs in the Baltic country during 2015, a review published by a local business newspaper showed on Wednesday.
According to Verslo Zinios, Lithuania's leading business newspaper, most of the new jobs were created in retail and wholesale sectors, as well as manufacturing. 5,176 new jobs were created by 1,000 largest enterprises, the newspaper said.
In terms of the regions, most of the jobs (2,688) were created in Kaunas, Lithuania's second largest city. The country's capital Vilnius ranks second on the list with 2,012 jobs created the last year by the country's largest employers.
A total of 2,185 jobs were created in retail and wholesale sectors, the research showed. Rimi Lietuva, one of the four largest retailers in Lithuania, led the list with 294 created jobs in 2015.
Meanwhile, in manufacturing sector, PKC Group Lithuania, company of Finnish capital based in the country's northwestern town Panevezys, ranked as the top company of creating jobs in 2015 with 367 new jobs created. PKC Group is known in global commercial vehicle industry as a supplier in electrical distribution systems.
Lithuania's seasonally adjusted unemployment level decreased in May this year to 8 percent, official statistical data showed earlier.
Lithuanian GDP grew 2 percent on a yearly basis in the second quarter of 2016, according to Statistics Lithuania. Growth was driven mostly by domestic demand, the country's statistical office noted back in July. Endit
