Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said on Tuesday that the strategic partnership between the ten-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China is very important and gives huge benefits to ASEAN.

"The relations between ASEAN and China have provided enormous benefits to ASEAN. Therefore, Cambodia always plays a coordinating role to ensure harmony in the ASEAN-China relations," he said during the inauguration ceremony of a national road in western Kampong Speu province. MOSCOW -- The award of the ad hoc arbitral tribunal in The Hague on the claim of the Philippines will under no circumstances have an impact on China's sovereignty, maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui said.

"China defends the settlement of the South China Sea dispute through dialogue and consultation with the directly involved countries on the basis of respect for historical facts and international law, with the aim to maintain peace and stability in the region," Li said in an interview with leading Russian media on Monday. MOSCOW -- The deployment of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system in South Korea might be an incentive for security cooperation between Russia and China, a Russian expert said.

There needs to be new joint statements of strategic nature on security cooperation and protecting regional stability, said Sergei Luzianin, acting director of the Institute for Far Eastern Studies from the Russian Academy of Sciences. (THAAD-Russia-China)

ADDIS ABABA -- China Electric Power Equipment and Technology (CET) on Monday officially commenced the construction of the Ethiopia-Kenya high voltage electric power transmission line project within Ethiopia.

The project, which is carried out with a total investment of 1.26 billion U.S. dollars financed by the African Development Bank, runs about 1,045km, of which 445km is within Ethiopia's territory and the rest in Kenya. (Ethiopia-China-Power Line)

LONDON -- A spokeswoman for British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday that Britain will continue to seek a stronger relationship with China, Reuters reported.
