Some 9,000 residents displaced by tropical storm in Philippines

Xinhua, August 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tropical storm Nida, locally named Carina, has displaced nearly 9,000 people before it left the Philippines on Monday, the state disaster management agency said.

The 1,976 families or 8,809 individuals who were affected by the weather disturbance came from four regions, mostly in northern part of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

Of those affected, over 500 persons were being served in 13 evacuation centers, while the rest were outside the evacuation centers.

Classes in some schools in at least 10 provinces in northern part of the country were suspended.

Since Sunday, about 40 domestic and international flights were cancelled due to bad weather.

The state weather forecasting agency said Nida left the country before noon on Monday and had no direct effect on any part of the Philippines. Endit
