HOUSTON -- U.S. Texas Department of PUBLIC Safety has confirmed that 16 people were killed on Saturday morning after a hot air balloon caught on fire and crashed near Lockhart, a city in the central part of the U.S. state of Texas.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:40 a.m. local time (1240 GMT) on Saturday near Lockhart, a city about 48 km south of the Lone Star state capital of Austin, when the hot air balloon with at least 16 people on board crashed into a pasture, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement on Saturday. SAN FRANCISCO -- A gunman attacked a gathering of young adults early Saturday at a suburban home of Seattle, a city in northwestern United States, killing three people and wounding another.
