Johanna Eisenhuth, an 88-year-old lady who suffered from leaky aortic valve, was cured thanks to a novel Chinese heart valve that saved her from an open-heart surgery too risky to operate at her age.
Vancouver Sun reported Saturday that doctors at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver had been prepared to perform a revolutionary procedure that would fix her heart using the J-valve, a new device from China.
Her operation was performed under the guidance of cardiac surgeon Dr. Jian Ye and cardiologist Dr. John Webb from St. Paul's Centre for Heart Valve Innovation. (Canada-China-Health)

BEIJING -- A China-U.S. co-production called "China's Challenges" has garnered an Emmy Award in Los Angeles, making history for such bilateral collaboration, said the show's producer on Sunday.
U.S. expert on China Robert Kuhn, also known for his book "How China's Leaders Think," said he and his team were delighted that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles has awarded an Emmy to their TV series for "pioneering presentation of China's historic transformation and today's challenges." KATHMANDU -- The CPN (Maoist-Centre), third largest party in the Nepalese Parliament, has said that the next government to be formed under Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal will implement the bilateral accords reached between China and Nepal during Prime Minister K.P Sharma Oli's visit to Beijing this year in March, the party said in a press statement on Saturday.
During a recent meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai, CPN (Maoist-Centre) Chairman Dahal briefed the ambassador about recent political developments after the prime minister's resignation last week and expressed hope that the next government will be formed under his leadership, the party said in its statement. KATHMANDU -- Nepal's central bank has said it has received far better yield from its investments made in Chinese currency in the Chinese government securities and short-term deposits compared to its investments in most of other currencies.
