Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam visits former President S R Nathan at hospital

Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam visited the former President S R Nathan, who suffered a stroke early this morning, at Singapore General Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

President Tan said he and his wife saw former President Nathan and spoke with his family at the hospital via his Facebook. President Tan added that "we will continue to keep Mr Nathan in our prayers."

Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean also visited former President Nathan on Sunday afternoon.

Teo updated his Facebook, saying "our thoughts and prayers, including those of PM Lee and Mrs Lee who are currently in the U.S., are with Mr Nathan, Mrs Nathan and the family."

Singapore's Prime Minister's Office said the former president is "in critical condition" in the Intensive Care Unit at Singapore General Hospital in a statement released around noon. After hearing the news, many Singaporeans post their wishes for the former president on Facebook.

Nathan, 92, was the sixth and longest-serving president in Singapore, and was in office for two terms from 1999 to 2011. Endit
