Poland's President Andrzej Duda met his Panama counterpart Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez in Warsaw on Friday to discuss economic cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Polish president's chief aide Krzysztof Szczerski said this is the first time Polish and Panama presidents have held an official meeting.

The presidents discussed economic cooperation between the two countries, including in tourism, according to Szczerski.

"Secondly, (Poland's) president confirmed the decision to reopen the Polish embassy in Panama. The Polish mission in Panama, which was closed down a few years ago, will be reopened in 2017," said the chief aide.

After the meeting, Poland's Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski and his Panama counterpart Isabel Saint Malo signed a protocol launching a political consultation mechanism between Polish and Panamanian foreign ministries and a bilateral agreement on cooperation in tourism. The two heads of state took part in the signing ceremony.

The Panamanian president came to Poland to attend World Youth Day, which held from Tuesday to Sunday in the Polish southern city of Krakow. Some media reported that the next World Youth Day will be held in Panama. Endit
