A verification of Zambia's voters' register has revealed that 6.6 million voters will take part in next month's general elections, the country's electoral body said on Friday.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) said after conducting a verification exercise of the voters' register that the updated register has 6, 698, 372 registered voters eligible to take part in the August 11 general elections.

Justice Esau Chulu, ECZ chairperson, said out of the total number of registered voters, 3, 372, 935 were females while 3, 325, 437 were males.

He told a stakeholders' meeting in Lusaka, the country's capital, that the electoral body will avail the certified voters' register to all the nine presidential candidates next week, adding that the commission has done everything it could to prepare adequately for the elections. Endit
