Tokyo shares open higher amid central bank stimulus expectations

Tokyo shares opened higher on Friday amid rising expectations of further steps for monetary easing from the Bank of Japan ahead of the outcome of its two-day policy meeting ending Friday.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 15.12 points, or 0.09 percent, from Thursday to 16,491.96.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.47 points, or 0.11 percent, to 1,308.47.

Gainers were led by security, real estate and financial stock issues. Endit
