Gabon, Equatorial Guinea presidents in talks over regional EPA with EU

Xinhua, July 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba and his Equatorial Guinea counterpart Teodoro Obiang Nguema on Wednesday held talks on a range of issues in Franceville, 700 kilometers from Gabon's capital Libreville, Government Spokesman Alain Claude Bilie By Nze said.

Bilie By Nze said the two leaders particularly discussed the issue of Economic Partnership Agreements between member states of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) and the European Union.

Whereas the EU has been pushing CEMAC states to sign the agreements that would help to remove trade barriers between the two entities, Africans have been reluctant, arguing that "Made in Africa" products are always subjected to numerous eligibility criteria on European markets.

The two presidents equally discussed about preparations for the forthcoming extraordinary summit of CEMAC, which will be held in the next few days in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea's capital.

CEMAC is comprised of six member states including Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea. Endit
