Myanmar seizes 34,000 stimulants at Yangon International Airport

Myanmar police confiscated 34,000 Yaba pills worth of 843,170 U.S. dollars at Yangon International Airport, local police said on Thursday.

The authorities seized the stimulants, carried by a 24-year-old woman, who planed to o take Malaysia Airlines' flight, MH-741 to Malaysia, a Yangon police officer told Xinhua.

The woman, who came from Zalaun township in Ayawaddy region, will be charged over .

Opium production in Myanmar once registered a drop in 2007, but it went up in 2014, then it fell again slightly in 2015-2016, according to official figures of the police force.

According to the police official, there were 6,414 drug-related cases in 2015 and 3,244 as of May 2016 in Myanmar. The authorities seized 168 kg heroin, 800 kg opium and 49 million stimulants in 2015, while 100 kg opium and 43 million stimulants were seized as of May 2016. Endit
