Storm Mirinae made landfall in northern Vietnam on Wednesday night, bringing strong gales and torrential rain for northern localities.

After striking Vietnam, the storm has weakened into a tropical depression, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting on Thursday.

At 05:00 a.m. local time on Thursday morning (10:00 GMT on Wednesday), maximum wind of 60-75 km per hour was recorded near storm eye.

In the past hours, Vietnam's northern localities have suffered heavy rain, including Nam Dinh (126mm), Ninh Binh (173mm), and Thai Binh (186mm).

After being weakened into a tropical depression, it continues moving west-northwest at a speed of 10-15 km per hour, said the center.

Floods and landslides have been warned at northern localities. This is the first storm striking Vietnam in 2016. Endit
