Flight from Dubai to Maldives makes emergency landing in India

Xinhua, July 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Emirates plane from Dubai to Maldives Tuesday made an emergency landing in Indian city of Mumbai, following detection of smoke in its cabin, local media reports said.

Officials said 309 people were on board.

Reports quoting local officials said all the passengers were evacuated safely.

"After the pilot sent an SOS to Air Traffic Controllers, the Coast Guard rushed ships out on stand-by just in case the plane was not able to cross the sea to reach the international airport," a local news channel NDTV said.

The plane was in Mumbai until last reports came in. It was not known whether passengers were arranged with new flights for the onward journey. Endit
