Xinhua, July 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Up to 122 militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) group have been killed in the eastern Nangarhar province over the past 24 hours, spokesman for provincial governor Attaullah Khogiani said Tuesday.

"The government forces during ground and air operations against IS rebels in Achin district have killed 122 fighters and arrested 20 others over the past 24 hours," Khogiani told Xinhua.

There were no casualties on civilians during the operations, the official asserted. The operation is still going on, the official added.

IS militants who have been operating in parts of Achin and the neighboring Kot districts over the past one year are yet to make comment.

Earlier local officials reported killing a key IS commander Saad Emarati in Kot district on Monday night. Endit
