Iraq is India's top supplier of crude oil

Xinhua, July 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iraq, and not Saudi Arabia, is now India's top crude oil supplier, the country's government has said.

"Iraq sold 11 million tonnes (MT) of crude oil to India during April-June this year, higher than 10 MT sourced from Saudi Arabia," Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan told the Parliament Monday.

However, Saudi Arabia has been India's top supplier of crude oil in the past two years.

Venezuela is the third biggest supplier of crude oil to India, while Iran has grabbed the fourth slot post lifting of sanctions, according to the government.

In April-June this year, India bought 5 MT of crude oil from Iran, and 5.2 MT from Venezuela, the Minister said in the Lower House of Parliament.

India imports about 80 per cent of its oil needs. Endit
