Bulgaria supports IOC decision on Russia's participation in Rio Games

Xinhua, July 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) said in a statement here on Monday that it supports the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the participation of Russian athletes in the Rio Olympics.

The BOC fully supports zero tolerance towards doping, but penalties and restrictions should not affect those who have been correct in their preparation and participation so far, the statement said.

Therefore, the BOC shares the position of the IOC on the "individual justice", the statement said.

Meanwhile, the BOC is against the use of sport for political purposes and interests, "because we remember how they split the Olympic Movement in the early 1980s", the statement added.

On Sunday, the IOC decided not to impose a blanket ban on Russia from the Rio Olympic Games and let each summer sports international federation determine respective athletes' eligibility. Endit
