Tokyo shares open higher on U.S. gains, yen's depreciation

Tokyo shares opened higher Monday on gains in U.S. shares last week and yen's depreciation.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 50.02 points, or 0.30 percent, from Friday to 16,677.27.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange leapt 4.68 points, or 0.35 percent, to 1,332.19.

Gainers were led by insurance, security and real estate issues. Endit
