Safaricom's robust trading lifts Kenya's bourse weekly turnover

Week-on-week equity turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) swelled to 37 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 149 million shares from 124 million shares worth 31 million dollars last week boosted by robust trading of Safaricom.

The leading telecom operator moved a total of 84 million shares, mainly foreign buys, at between 0.17 dollars and 0.18 dollars, accounting for 56 percent of the weeks traded volume.

The banking sector, on the other hand, traded 46 million shares which accounted for 30 percent of the traded volume.

Equity Bank under the category was the most traded during the week moving 32 million shares at a high of 0.38 dollars. Cooperative Bank declined 2 percent to trade at 0.14 dollars in a volume of 8.5 million shares.

In the energy sector, KenolKobil was the biggest mover, trading 5.5 million shares at 0.20 dollars. The NSE 20 Share Index closed the week at 3,524.59, some 72 points lower.

The All Share Index, on the other hand, went up slightly to close the week at 138.52 points while the 25 share index was down to 3,839.95.

At the bond market, weekly turnover declined to 31 million dollars from 83 million dollars. Enditem
