The Portuguese player Andre Gomes has signed up for FC Barcelona after Valencia and Barca reached an agreement, FC Barcelona reported on Friday.

The midfielder is signing for five seasons and was one of the most important players in his former team, Valencia, over the last two seasons. He was shipped to Valencia on loan in the 2014/2015 season where he played 75 matches and scored eight goals.

Gomes debuted for Benfica's first team in July, 2012. He played 41 times for the first team, scored four goals and won one Super league, one Portuguese Cup and one League Cup.

FC Barcelona praised the 22-year-old midfielder saying that "despite his youth, he has already played two years in Spain's top flight with Valencia, featuring 78 times for Los Che - 68 in La Liga, eight in the Copa del Rey, four in the Champions League and three in the Europa League."

Gomes played 13 times for his country, winning this year's European Championships. He made his debut in 2014 against Albania.

Gomes is the fourth new player for FC Barcelona 2016/2017 season, after Galician midfielder Denis Suarez and French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne. Endit
