Sam Allardyce appointed as new England manager

Xinhua, July 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

The 61-year-old Sam Allardyce has signed an initial two-year contract with the English Football Association to be the new England manager, replacing Roy Hodgson who resigned after a disappointing result in the Euro 2016.

"The unanimous choice of the FA's three-man selection panel, Allardyce arrives with a proven track record of getting the best results out of the teams he has managed and a strong reputation as a forward-thinker with progressive ideas," the English FA said in a statement Friday.

"I will do everything I can do to help England do well," Allardyce said as quoted in the statement.

Helping Sunderland retain its place in the Premier League, Allardyce is a seasoned coach who is quite familliar with English football. His first match in charge will be a friendly at Wembley Stadium on Sept. 1. Endit
