At least two people including a police constable were killed and two others injured as an explosive device planted by militants to target security personnel went off in Almar district of the northern Faryab province on Friday, a police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said.

According to the official one police constable and a civilian lost their lives in the blast and two more civilians sustained injuries.

Without giving more details, the official said that investigation has been initiated into the case.

Meantime, an eyewitness on the condition of anonymity has confirmed that four people including two police has lost their lives in the blast.

The northern Faryab province with Maimana as its capital 425 km northwest of Kabul has been the scene of Taliban-led insurgency over the past couple of years. Enditem
