A former Lao diplomat said on Friday that the South China Sea issue would not impede the further development of relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
"The South China Sea arbitration unilaterally initiated by the Philippines is just an episode of the ASEAN-China cooperation," Soukthavy Keola, a former counselor at the Lao Embassy in China, told Xinhua ahead of an ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting set to open on Sunday. (Laos-South China Sea)

PYONGYANG -- A flight of Air Koryo, the national flag carrier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which was en route from Pyongyang to Beijing, Friday force-landed in China's northeastern city of Shenyang because of smoke in the aircraft, a passenger told Xinhua.
Smoke appeared in the cabin about 30 minutes after the plane took off from Pyongyang Sunan International Airport, said the passenger. Flight attendants told the passengers not to panic and that the plane will temporarily land at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport. (DPRK-Plane-Force Landing)

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia -- Government of Malaysia, Australia and China announced on Friday that search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 would be suspended upon completion of the current search area.
Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014 enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board, most of them being Chinese nationals. A joint search effort has not yet found the main body of the aircraft in the south Indian Ocean, where it has presumably ended its journey. (Malaysia-MH370)

CAIRO -- Egypt launched on Thursday its first Afro-Chinese Arts & Folklore Festival in a bid to draw tourists back to the North-African country.
Some 18 African countries participated in the festival, organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism. During the opening ceremony held in Cairo's Mohammed Ali Palace, a number of bands from several African countries and China performed folkloric and musical shows. (Egypt-China-Art)

ATHENS -- Greece will apply to participate in the share capital of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Government Council on Economic Policy decided on Thursday, in a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Yannis Dragasakis.
In an e-mailed press release, Dragasakis' office said the decision was part of the government's "general strategy to develop collaboration with international collective investment institutions, with the aim of security financing for high-added value investment plans." (Greece-AIIB) Endi
