Germany international Goetze rejoins Dortmund

Xinhua, July 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Bayern Munich' s attacking midfielder Mario Goetze joins his former club Borussia Dortmund, both clubs confirmed on Thursday.

After a long back and forth, Bayern and Dortmund were able to agree on Goetze' s transfer. The 24-year-old Germany international returns to the "BVB" after putting pen to paper on a four year deal, which keeps him with the "Black and Yellows" until June 2020.

"I am personally delighted that Mario has opted for Borussia Dortmund," CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said. "Since his departure in 2013 I have always hoped that he will return one day."

Goetze has already won five Bundesliga titles and three German Cups overall. In his four years at Dortmund, he provided 22 goals in 83 appearances before he joined Bayern in 2013 to mark 22 goals in 53 outings ever since. The Germany international also scored the 1-0 winner over Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup final in Brazil.

"When I transferred from Dortmund to Bayern in 2013 it was a conscious decision," Goetze said. "Three years later, I look with different eyes on my former decision. I can understand that many fans could not understand my decision. I would not take the same decision today."

During his three-year spell with the German giants he lifted three league titles. Borussia Dortmund will kick off their Bundesliga season 2016-2017 against Mainz on August 27. Endit
