Michelin Guide Singapore 2016 launched with two hawker stalls included

Xinhua, July 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Michelin on Thursday launched the first selection of the Michelin Guide Singapore 2016.

Michelin Guide Singapore 2016 picks out a three-star restaurant, Joel Robuchon which offers refined, contemporary French cuisine in a majestic art deco-inspired dining room; six two-star restaurants as well as 22 one-star eateries, covering all cooking styles and cuisines.

For the first time, Michelin also includes two hawker stalls, Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle, in the list of the 22 distinguished eateries.

"Singapore is a real crossroads of trade and commerce, with multiple culinary influences and repertoire that is enjoyed by both locals and visitors," said Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin Guides.

The two owners of the hawker stalls, which were awarded as one-star eateries, told Xinhua that being included in the guide is a kind of recognition, and that they expected queues to get longer.

Lionel Yeo, chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, said the city state is a nation of foodies, and the launch of the Michelin Guide is an opportunity to share the information with the rest of the world.

Through its rigorous selection process, the Michelin guide has become an international benchmark in fine dining. Endit
