-- The Zambian government said it will consider increasing taxes on imports from Zimbabwe to create a level playing field after the neighboring country restricted imports.
Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe however said this would be done in accordance with trade protocols within the Southern African Development Community and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa regional blocs to which Zambia belongs.
She said she had received several requests from different companies asking her to increase taxes on imports from Zimbabwe, adding that the government would consider increasing the taxes to protect local industries.
