Independiente del Valle square ledger in Copa Libertadores final

Xinhua, July 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

Ecuador international defender Arturo Mina scored a late goal to earn Independiente del Valle a 1-1 draw with Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores final on Wednesday.

Orlando Berrio had given the Colombian outfit the lead just before halftime when he skipped past two markers and fired a low shot beyond goalkeeper Librado Azcona.

Just when it appeared Atletico would secure a precious away victory at the Estadio Olimpico, Mina equalized with three minutes left.

The 25-year-old center-back, who has been capped 11 times for Ecuador, capitalized on goalkeeper Franco Armani's failure to clear a floating Junior Sornoza free-kick.

From the resulting scramble inside the six-yard box, Mina slotted in his first goal of the current Copa Libertadores campaign.

The deciding leg will be played at Atletico's Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellin next Wednesday.

Atletico Nacional are aiming to clinch their second Copa Libertadores trophy, 27 years after their first. Independiente del Valle have never won Latin America's top club competition. Endit
