India's green court orders ban on diesel vehicles over 15 years in Delhi

Xinhua, July 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

India's green court Wednesday ordered that all diesel vehicles older than 15 years should be banned from plying in the national capital.

"All diesel vehicles which are more than 15 years old and do not comply to environmental norms to be scrapped and no no-objection certificate will be issued," the National Green Tribunal ordered.

The tribunal has been mulling banning old diesel vehicles from the road in a bid to curb pollution in the National Capital Region that includes Delhi and the neighboring cities of Gurgaon and Noida.

In fact, on July 18, it had asked the Delhi Regional Transport Office to immediately de-register all diesel vehicles that are over 10 years old.

However, experts say that the ban may not be feasible in a short time given the number of older diesel vehicles plying on roads in the region. Endit
