Gang rape victim raped again by same accused in India

A young woman was allegedly raped by five men for the second time after three years in India and left to die in bushes, police said Tuesday.

The incident took place last week in Haryana's Rohtak district, about 70 km northwest of India's national capital of New Delhi.

Following the incident small groups from the victim's community of Dalit took to roads demanding an immediate arrest of the accused five, who are still at large. Police officials at Rohtak said they had registered a complaint and were searching the accused men.

Reports said the woman was pursuing a case in court of law against the accused five men.

Local media reports quoted the victim saying she was forced inside a car, raped and later dumped in bushes by the same men who attacked her earlier but were currently on bail.

The victim is recovering at a hospital in Rohtak.

Family members of the victim told media the five were pressurising the family to settle the case and give up pursuing it in court. The woman was first assaulted in 2013 in Bhiwani town of the state. The family alleged they migrated to Rohtak after receiving threats from the accused.

"After the first incident I came here along with my children in order to help them pursue their education," victim's mother told media.

Her family has alleged that they had moved to Rohtak after they were threatened by the accused who have been out on bail.

In Dec. 2002 a fatal gang-rape of a medical student in New Delhi brought spotlight on crimes against women in India.

The incident saw huge protests and resulted in new anti-rape laws in the country. However, brutal sexual attacks against women continue to be reported across India. Endit
