Brazil announces strongest-ever Olympic delegation with 462 athletes

Host Brazil has announced its strongest-ever Olympic delegation with 462 athletes for Rio 2016, which almost doubled the 277 athletes for Beijing 2008.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee said Monday that the team is made up of 253 women and 209 men.

The whole delegation comprising athletes, coaches, physical trainers, doctors and other staff has up to 806 people.

Brazil will be especially well-represented in athletics, with 67 participants, football (36), swimming (33), handball (28) and water polo (26). The country will also send teams to a number of events for the first time: badminton, trampolining, golf and field hockey. Enditem
