Bangladesh court frames charges against 41 accused for worst-ever industrial tragedy

Xinhua, July 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

A court in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka has framed charges against 41 accused including a building owner in a case filed over the country's worst-ever industrial tragedy in 2013 which left at least 1,136 people dead.

After framing charges on Monday, Dhaka District and Session Judges' Court Judge SM Kuddus Zaman set Sept. 18 for the next hearing against the accused.

The eight-story building - Rana Plaza housing five garment factories crumbled into a cement grave on April 24, 2013 on the outskirts of capital Dhaka.

Rana is blamed for forcing workers to enter the factories on that day though big cracks appeared in the building a day earlier.

Of the accused, seven are in jail while seven others are on the run and 27 are on bail.

A total of 34 accused who were present at the court pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out before them. Endit
