Eight Turkish coup participants request asylum in Greece: media

Xinhua, July 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Turkish military helicopter landed in the city of Alexandroupoli in northern Greece, close to the borderline with Turkey on Saturday and the eight people onboard requested political asylum in Greece, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

According to Greek military sources, the eight people may have participated in Friday's military coup attempt in Turkey.

The Black Hawk helicopter entered the Greek airspace without permission and was escorted by Greek military jets to Alexandroupolis.

The eight Turkish nationals were detained at the city's police precinct, according to AMNA. Enditem
