St. Petersburg terminates contract with 2018 World Cup stadium's constructor

Xinhua, July 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

The government of St. Petersburg terminated the contract with the Krestovsky Stadium's general constructor 'Transstroy' with only 11 months left before 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, 'Interfax' reported on Friday.

According to the vice-governor of the city Igor Albin, 'Transstroy' has been expressing three ideas since 2015: "We can't finish the work in time, we need more money, don't control us."

'Transstroy's representatives supposed that the government isn't going to terminate the contract, but to make the company more 'agreeable' to the local government's demands.

The termination of the contract will interrupt the process of construction for some time. The senator and the chairman of the Preparation Committee for 2018 FIFA World Cup noted that it can ruin the organization of 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, because the possibility of finding another stadium to host this event was not considered.
