BFG maize maze created near Cambridge in tribute to famous writer Roald Dahl

An amazing maze, created to celebrate the centenary of the birth of writer Roald Dahl, will open its doors on July 16 featuring one of the author's greatest characters, the Big Friendly Giant(BFG).

Edward Gowler has used a field of maize at his garden center in Cambridgeshire to build what he describes as the biggest ever image of the BFG.

As maize crops in Britain reach their maturity it has become popular for farmers and crop growers to use their corn fields as temporary attractions for visitors.

At the Skylark Garden Center at March in Cambridgeshire, the BFG maize maze spans almost five hectares with three kilometres of pathways tempting visitors with a huge corn maize full of twists and turns.

Dahl, born in Wales in 1916, is famous for writing books such as The BFG, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda. More than 200 million copies of his books have been sold across the world, and next week a film by Steven Spielberg based on Dahl's BFG book, goes on release in Britain.

BFG is about about a giant who captures dreams in bottles for children to enjoy while they sleep.

Gowler, a fan of Dahl stories since his childhood says his own children now enjoy the stories. He said: "The design of our maize maze this year is the ultimate tribute to Roald Dahl in his centenary year. The maze features the largest ever image of the Big Friendly Giant, which is also featured in a Hollywood movie this year, The BFG." Endit
