Greece's political leadership unequivocally condemned on Friday the deadly terrorist attack in Nice which resulted in more than 80 deaths, expressing solidarity with French people.

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos expressed deepest condolences to his French counterpart Francois Hollande, the families of the victims and the people of France, according to a press statement.

Greece's Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed solidarity with the French people.

"We express our unequivocal condemnation and abhorrence of the new, deadly terrorist attack in France. Our thoughts are with the French people and the families of all the innocent victims, to whom we express our sincere condolences," said an announcement issued on Friday.

The Speaker of the Greek parliament and leaders of opposition political parties issued similar statements.

So far no Greek nationals have been identified among victims, Greek diplomats told Greek national news agency AMNA.

There are about 2,500 Greeks living in Nice, Monaco and the Cote d'Azur, including students. Most of them, however, have returned to Greece for holidays.
