Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have written to their French counterparts to convey condolences on the terror attack in Nice, France on Thursday, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a statement on Friday.

In the letter to French President Francois Hollande, President Tony Tan said he conveyed condolences on the terror attack in Nice on behalf of the people of Singapore.

"We are profoundly saddened by the loss of lives and our deepest sympathies go to the families of the victims. We wish the injured a speedy recovery," said President Tan.

Meanwhile, President Tan stressed that Singapore strongly condemns any acts of terror.

"The attacks on innocent lives are senseless and unjustifiable," he said.

PM Lee wrote to French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, reiterating Singapore's stand on terror attack. "Singapore strongly condemns this senseless violence and stands in solidarity with France," said PM Lee.

The prime minister also said he was "shocked" to learn of the terrorist attack in Nice, and he would like to convey condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims.

"Our thoughts are with France and her people during this time of grief," wrote PM Lee in the letter.

MFA said Singapore strongly condemns the heinous attack in Nice in another statement earlier on Friday. Enditem
