Road carnage in Zambia leaves 12 dead

Xinhua, July 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Twelve people died on the spot while eight others sustained injuries when a minibus they were traveling in northwestern Zambia collided with a truck, the country's road safety agency said on Wednesday.

The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon after the minibus lost control and collided with a truck, killing the 12 people on the spot, including the driver.

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) said preliminary investigations have indicated that the accident was caused by a tyre burst and over speeding.

The agency said in a statement that the driver of the minibus failed to control the vehicle after a tyre burst and hit into an oncoming truck.

The road safety agency further said the bus was overloaded hence exerting more pressure on the tyres.

Among the dead include five females, six males and one baby. Endit
