Cambodia's exports up 9 pct in first five months

Xinhua, July 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cambodia exported products worth 3.66 billion U.S. dollars in the first five months of 2016, an increase of 9 percent over the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday.

Garment and footwear products accounted for about 80 percent of the country's total exports, the figures said.

On the import side, the Southeast Asian nation imported goods in equivalent to 5.25 billion U.S. dollars during the January-May period this year, up 15 percent over the same period last year.

"The continued growth in export shows the broader access of Cambodian products to foreign markets," said Mey Kalyan, a senior adviser at the Supreme National Economic Council.

Cambodian's main trading partners include European countries, the United States, China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia. Endit
