Two killed, 8 injured in inter-clan fighting in Somali capital

Xinhua, July 11, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least two people were killed on Monday and eight others injured following inter-clan fighting in Somali capital Mogadishu, eyewitnesses said.

An eyewitness told Xinhua the fighting occurred at a village close to former U.S. embassy in Mogadishu, resulting in casualties and displacement.

"Two clan militia exchanged heavy gunfire here in Dharkenlay district this morning, I have seen two villagers dead and eight others wounded, I don't know the number of casualties of the two warring sides, but residents were displaced during the fighting," one of the witnesses said on condition of anonymity.

A resident in the area said that the two sides fought over the ownership of a piece of land. One side built a house and the other side destroyed it, sparking a gunfire between the two sides," said the witness.

Such conflict often happens in the capital and the rest of the country, but local elders try to find an amicable solution to the problem. Endit
