Police uncover arms cache in northern Spain

Xinhua, July 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Spanish police confirmed on Thursday they have uncovered a cache of weapons and explosives in northern Spain and arrested a man on suspicion of arms trafficking.

The cache which contains weapons, detonators, ammunition and two kilos of explosives were found in a farm house in the Basque Province of Bizkaia, according to the Spanish National Police.

The majority of the weapons seized were firearms. The detonators do not meet European safety standards. The firearms are believed to be brought into Spain by the detainee via mail.

According to the police, the man who was arrested had a clandestine workshop and machinery in the house, which enabled him to manufacture home-made weapons and bombs.

Among the items seized by the police, there were 32 pistols, 55 rifles, two homemade firearms, silencers, ammunition clips, 10 machetes, a spear, and a samurai sword.

According to the police, those weapons could have been introduced into the illegal firearms market, although for the moment they believe their final destination was neither organized crime groups nor terrorist organizations. Endit
