About 30,000 Singapore dollars (22,248 U.S. dollars) in cash were robbed from Standard Chartered in Singapore's Holland Village around noon on Thursday, local media reported.

The police has confirmed that the robbery took place at Standard Chartered bank branch in Holland Village around 11: 25 a.m. on Thursday. The robber escaped and the bank was closed after the incident. The police said investigations are ongoing.

Local newspaper the Straits Times quoted a police spokesman as saying no weapons were used in the robbery and there were no injuries.

A spokesman for Standard Chartered assured the public that all its employees and customers are safe. "We would like to highlight that the safety of our customers and staff are our top priority and our branch staff are all well trained to react to such situations," said the spokesman.

Bank robberies are rare in Singapore. A man dressed as a woman attempted to rob a United Overseas Bank branch at City Plaza on Geylang Road in November 2008, which ended in failure. Endit
