No-confidence session on Slovak PM Fico fails due to MPs uninterest

Xinhua, July 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

The extraordinary parliamentary session concerning a no-confidence motion against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico failed and was rescheduled for Thursday morning, according to local news agency TASR on Wednesday.

Only 66 MPs registered for a second attempt to hold the session on Wednesday, while the required minimum is 76. An earlier attempt to hold the session saw only 56 lawmakers turn up.

The opposition wants to dismiss Fico due to his failure to recall Interior Minister Robert Kalinak.

According to the opposition, Kalinak has links to controversial entrepreneur Ladislav Basternak -- suspected of tax fraud. For some weeks, they have been urging Fico to dismiss Kalinak.

"Send Mr. Kalinak off, let him conduct his business outside of politics," stressed opposition MP Veronika Remisova from OLANO-NOVA.

Fico isn't attending the parliamentary session because he left for a two-day working trip to Strasbourg on Tuesday. Endit
