10-year-old Namibian boy in court for culpable homicide

Xinhua, July 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Namibian regional court has charged a 10-year-old boy with culpable homicide for the death of his cousin.

The boy accidentally shot the 23-year-old cousin on July 3 at Rehoboth, a town about 90 kilometers south of the capital Windhoek.

Police said the mishap happened when the family went out for a braai, and the boy took his father's 9mm pistol from the car and shot the cousin while playing with the gun.

The boy was brought to Rehoboth Magistrate's Court on Monday and Tuesday during which the case was heard in camera.

The magistrate has postponed the case to Aug. 23 to allow the police to probe further. Endit
