Chinese shares close mixed Tuesday

Xinhua, July 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.6 percent, at 3,006.39 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.07 percent lower at 10,602.77 points.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.12 percent to close at 2,246.03 points.

Turnover on the two bourses stood at 707.8 billion yuan (108.8 billion U.S. dollars), up from 658.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Stocks related to reforms in state-owned enterprises (SOE), including those in shipping, steel and national defense, led the gains as Chinese leaders have urged continued efforts to propel reforms of state-owned enterprises (SOE) to enhance their competitiveness.

More should be done to advance industrial structure adjustment and innovation-driven development, letting SOEs play a leading role in the country's supply-side structural reform, according to a statement released Monday after a symposium on SOE reform. Endi
