Following a series of terror attacks that have taken place around the world, especially during Ramadan, Singapore's top Muslim religious leader on Tuesday condemned these "vile" acts and stressed that such an act has "nothing to do with Islam."
"These vile attacks were caused by misguided people who commit atrocities and violence blemishing the name of Islam, a religion that places great emphasis on the sanctity of human lives," Bakaram said in a statement.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the innocent victims and their families."
A series of terror attacks have been seen across the world. These included attacks in Orlando in the United States, Kabul in Afghanistan, Istanbul in Turkey, Dhaka in Bangladesh, Baghdad in Iraq, Malaysia's capital of Kuala Lumpur and Surakarta in Indonesia, and most recently on Monday in Medina in Saudi Arabia outside the Prophet's Mosque, during the final days of the fasting month of Ramadan.
"The fact that the attacks took place during Ramadan, in which Muslims are taught to be close to the Creator and to seek His blessings through doing good deeds and refraining from evil, show clearly these attacks have nothing to do with Islam," Bakaram stressed, adding that these are outrageous and evil attacks against humanity.
On the same day, Yaacob Ibrahim, Singapore's Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, also echoed Bakaram on his Facebook page.
"These senseless acts of terror ignores the sanctity of human life, regardless of faith," he wrote.
"The attacks on Muslim majority cities and countries, claiming lives of Muslims during the Holy month of Ramadan, confirm that their heinous acts are against Islam and do not represent Muslims all over the world." Endit
