Indian Police said on Tuesday they have arrested an Indian stockbroker for killing his Congolese wife, then chopping her body and trying to burn it in the bushes of a village on the outskirts of the southern state of Andhra Pradesh's capital Hyderabad.
According to cops, 35-year-old Rupesh Kumar Agarwal was arrested late Monday night after he was detained by villagers while trying to flee in his car following an unsuccessful attempt to burn his wife's body parts in the village.
In fact, local residents became suspicious when they saw smoke billowing out of the bushes at night and rushed to the spot. A panicked Rupesh immediately tried to flee the spot, but was caught by the villagers when his car got stuck in slushes, police said.
"The accused had confessed to killing his wife Cynthia over a financial dispute Monday morning and then chopping up her body into parts. He took his five-year-old daughter in his car to the village to burn the body using petrol," a senior police official said, on condition of anonymity.
Rupesh and Cynthia were married for eight years, he said, adding that the remains of the Congolese woman's body have been recovered and sent for an autopsy. "We will try to file a charge sheet in the case at the earliest," the official said. Endit
