Xinhua, July 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

A dozen militants of the Islamic States (IS) outfit were killed following an airstrike carried out by NATO-led forces in Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar overnight, the provincial government said on Tuesday.

"The airstrike launched by international forces took place in Lagharjoy locality of Kot district late last night. Several rounds of weapons and ammunition were also destroyed as a result of the air raid operation," it said in a statement.

A group commander of IS were among the killed, the statement said, adding no civilian casualties were reported after the attack.

The IS group has yet to make comments.

Nangarhar province with Jalalabad city as its capital, 120 km east of Kabul, has been the scene of clashes between security forces and IS militants since the emergence of IS in early 2015.

More than 150 IS militants, eight civilians and at least two security force members were killed in the same district late last month. Endit
